But as the cooler November weather rolls in, you’ll have to rule out most of the northern states. Luckily, there are plenty of destinations down south that are worth the drive.
Desert Adventures of the Southwest
Las Vegas, Nevada
With its bright lights and endless entertainment, there’s certainly no place like Vegas. Whether it’s the starting point or last stop on a road trip, the city is definitely a place to check out. Las Vegas can also set you up for trips to several national parks that are great to visit at this time of the year.
Canyonlands National Park, Utah
Head over to Moab, Utah and you can drop by Canyonlands National Park. If you’re looking for desert landscapes and canyons, this is where you’ll find them. Highlights include views of the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the combined Colorado and Green river.
Arches National Park, Utah
Another point of interest near Moab is the Arches National Park. Named after the sandstone arches you’ll see throughout the area, you’ll see some of the most spectacular rock formations around. The Delicate Arch, Park Avenue spires, Skyline Arch, and Landscape Arch are among the must-see spots.
If you have the time, drive out to both Canyonlands and Arches over a couple of days to experience everything both parks have to offer.
Zion National Park, Utah
It’s not a good road trip without scenic drives along the way. Zion National Park definitely has that and more. Take your time along the different routes through the park and enjoy the landscape. The Emerald Pools, Zion Narrows, and diverse wildlife are just some of the things you can look forward to there.
Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
Right after Zion, consider a stop at Bryce Canyon National Park. It’s known for its natural giant amphitheaters, thin rock spires called “hoodoos”, and other unique rock formations. You’ll be blown away by the spectacular views of the red, orange, and white landscape.
Musical Cities of the Southeast
Nashville, Tennessee
Known as the home of country music, don’t be afraid to spend a few days to enjoy what Nashville has in store. You’ll find live music performances everywhere, with the Grand Ole Opry being one of the most well-known. Popular attractions also include the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Johnny Cash Museum.
Memphis, Tennessee
Just a few hours’ drive from Nashville is the city of Memphis. Here, you can walk through Beale Street which was voted as America’s Best Iconic Street. You can also visit Graceland (the home of Elvis Presley) and the National Civil Rights Museum.
New Orleans, Louisiana
If you’re looking for a great place to cap off your road trip, New Orleans is among the top destinations. It has some of the best food in the country and plenty of festivals until the late fall. Be sure to take a trip through the famous French Quarter to see the French and Spanish Creole architecture in the area.
