It’s probably super hard to fathom right now, but the dog days of summer will eventually subside. Just as Christmas will be here before you know it (T minus 150 or so shopping days left!) so will the bone-chilling temperatures that make you wish you were melting in the summer sun.

Who wants to grill with thick gloves and snow boots on? Get your fix now, while you comfortably can! By now, you may be growing a bit bored with the usual grill fare (burgers, dogs, and sizzling steaks.) Or, if you’re not growing bored, maybe your swim trunks are feeling somewhat snug. Why not experiment with some equally enticing grilling alternatives? Here are three to try.

Portobello Mushrooms. Marinated in balsamic vinegar, a splash of olive oil, and your favorite seasonings, this meaty mushroom mimics the taste and texture of steak.

Bananas. If you think grilling bananas is bananas, you’ve obviously never tried it! It’s easy. Just slice bananas in half lengthwise (peel on), place fruit-side down on grill, brush with a honey/rum/brown sugar mixture and grill a few minutes per side.

Foil Pouches. Pretty much whatever you can eat, you can grill. Why not clear out your fridge? Invite the fam to fill a foil square with their favorite veggies and proteins, seasoned and lightly drizzled with olive oil. Wrap it up tight like present and toss it on the grill ‘til the protein is done. Tasty, easy, and easy cleanup!
