Autumn Road Trip Essentials

While September is the beginning of the school year for many, it’s also the seasonal kickoff to some of the most pleasant weather of the year. The nice weather makes it even harder to surprises our travel bug as it can’t be cured by the unofficial end to summer.

DK is here to say that you shouldn’t be afraid to sneak another trip or two in before all of the craziness of the holidays set in!

Pack a bag for an out-of-town concert

Although the festival season is long gone, artists of all kind are still touring regularly. Maybe this is the month you travel one of your favorite groups around tour or at least catch a local show. A concert two to three hours away can be the perfect excuse to get out and explore a new place for the weekend.

Adult-only vacation

If you feel guilty for wanting time away from your kids, September was made for you. With school starting back up, your excuse for going alone is built-in. “Sorry honey, I would love for you to come but you can’t miss school” is the perfect cover-up. Even if it’s just a night stay in the hotel down the street, time to your self, with your spouse, or with a friend or two can help you to reset.

Octoberfest

Don’t let the name fool you, Octoberfests everywhere begin in September! In case you’ve never been, Octoberfest is a time of celebrating German heritage. If you’re lucky enough to visit Munich during this time, you will be celebrating the anniversary of when the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen back in 1810. However, if flying to Germany isn’t in the cards, some of the best Octoberfest celebrations in the States will be happening in San Francisco, California, Helen, Georgia, Denver, Colorado, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Fredericksburg, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, Leavenworth, Washington, Addison, Texas, Mount Angle, Organ, La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Football

You can also fill your weekends with America’s favorite game: football. Attending an alumni night or homecoming game can be a great way to relive your glory days even if they never took place on the field. It’s also a great time to get together with old friends and cheer on the younger generation. Make it a weekend thing with a high school game on Friday, college on Saturday, and NFL on Sunday. Pack up the family and head to the tailgate fields beforehand to help install that home team pride in your kids early on.

East Coast

If seeing the buzz of the Big Apple or taking it easy in the quiet towns or Virginia happen to be on your bucket list, cross it off this September! As fall creeps around the corner, the East Coast starts to embrace fall foliage that you can enjoy before the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Schools aren’t the only ones taking field trips this autumn!
