Coming off of a 13-3 record, greatness is within reach of the Cowboys. Can their nine newbies be the difference makers to finally take the team over the edge? Here’s hoping the 2017 draft class will perform as well as their 2016 predecessors Dak, Ezekiel, Maliek and Anthony. Without further ado, meet the newest boys in blue!
Taco Charlton, Defensive End, Michigan (Round 1, Pick 28)
Is Charlton the guy to help the Cowboys improve their pass rush game? It’s been some time since a Cowboy has made double-digit sacks. Last year, Charlton had 9.5. Here’s hoping Dallas defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli can unleash the beast and break that dry spell.
Chidobe Awuzie, Cornerback, Colorado (Round 2, Pick 28)
Awuzie is a “get’s ‘er done” kind of guy. He’s an outstanding football player. He’s dependable. The Cowboys are betting he’ll deliver under pressure.
Jourdan Lewis, Cornerback, Michigan (Round 3, Pick 28)
Can a 5’10, 188-pound cornerback cut in the NFL? The Cowboys are betting he can. Ranking in the 24th percentile for height and 30th percentile for weight as compared to other NFL cornerbacks, the ‘boys are taking a bit of a risk with this pick … especially considering he faces an upcoming trial regarding a domestic violence allegation. He was a standout in Michigan. Hopefully he’ll hit the gridiron motivated to prove greatness comes in small packages.
