A trip to the beach is always great fun . . . until it comes to the food. It’s just no fun lugging grills, charcoal, hamburger patties and hotdogs along with you and then having to unload and cook it all. On top of that, packing it all back up at the end of the day when you’re bloated from eating heavy food and tired from having fun.

There is a better way, though. Here are 5 easy meals for a trip to the beach – meals that are both easy to prepare and transport and light enough to be a good summertime food fit.

Drinkable Meals

Not every meal has to be plate full of solid food. Well-constructed smoothies pack enough of a nutritional punch to be considered a meal as well. Blend them up beforehand with plenty of protein powder and fruit, and you’ve got an easy, refreshing meal for the beach. These are especially great when you’re rushing to get out of the house and to the water.

Easy-to-Eat Wraps

Wraps are the easy-to-eat sandwiches, and they taste pretty darn good too. Unlike a regular sandwich, wraps don’t fall apart when you eat them, which make them perfect for beach dining. They are also lighter on the carbs so they won’t bloat you up and slow you down. A wrap made with chicken breast and little avocado and tomato is the perfect quick meal for lunchtime at the beach.

Pre-Made Salads

Similarly, pre-made salads are great beach meals because they are easy to prepare ahead of time and light enough to allow you to get back into the water soon. You can make them yourself or buy them on the way to the beach.

Another plus is that, while you do have to keep them cool, you don’t have to keep them cold all day to prevent spoiling as you would with hamburger patties. An added plus is that many salad ingredients, like tomatoes, are bursting with water content to help you stay hydrated.

Granola

Although granola bars aren’t strictly a meal, they can still keep you going for several hours – and with no preparation or mess. And today you can get them in a huge array of flavor choices to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. All you have to do is grab a big handful and throw them in the beach bag when you head out.

PB & J Sandwiches

Yep, that’s right: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If you’re taking the kids to the beach, you just can’t go wrong here. The ingredients won’t spoil while you’re at the beach, either. Easy to prepare and easy to eat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches also provide plenty of the carbs and fats you need to meet your energy requirements during that long, active day at the beach.

Some of these meal ideas may not seem all that exciting, but we’ve kept the emphasis on easy. The whole point of going to the beach is to have fun, so you don’t want to spend hours and lots of effort preparing food. Try these 5 easy meals for a trip to the beach for light nutrition that will keep you comfortably going all day. And remember to drink plenty of water while you’re at it.
